I agree that designers do not need a CSCS card. They are after all, visitors to the site and therefore must be escorted while walking around the site. They must not be allowed to walk straight on to site as they may not be aware of the hazards which are present due to them not being there all the time in an every evolving environment. The Visitors card was a good idea ( even if it was a just a way of making money) to facilitate logging in for online induction systems, but the carrier of the card still had to be escorted.

Does this apply to ECS cards as well? the ECS system does have designer roles for cards such as Telecom designer? Would these be required or could they be listed as a requirement for proving your knolwedge of H&S?

It appears that you need to be able to provide “adequate evidence of health and safety knowledge” , how do you do this without a CSCS card? Should CSCS not bring back the visitors card which it withdrew?
